General Practice

At M.I.S.S., we provide first-class services in the field of general medicine. As the first point of contact for any patient who enters our hospital, we deal with the detection, evaluation, and management of a wide range of illnesses and refer patients who need specialist treatment to our in-house specialists. We treat cases such as malaria, typhoid, management of hypertension and diabetes, annual physicals, laboratory testing, vaccinations, colds, the flu, or urinary tract infections (UTIs), injuries, minor burns, family planning, etc.

Surgery

We provide excellent surgical care in the following specialties: gynecological surgeries including removal of fibroids (myomectomy), hysterectomy, vaginal operations, caesarean section, ectopic pregnancy etc.; gynecological endoscopic surgery (Key hole or minimal access surgery) including laparoscopy and hysteroscopy; general surgeries including bowel surgery (gastroenterology), hernia, laparotomy, appendectomy, etc.; pediatric surgeries including, hydrocele, undescended testis etc.; urology including uro-genital surgeries.

Laparoscopic Surgery Training

As the only accredited FLS testing center, the goal is to provide practicing physicians as well as surgeons in training an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery in a consistent, scientifically accepted format; and to test cognitive, surgical decision-making, and technical skills, all with the goal of improving the quality of patient care.

Meet Our Director

Dr. Shitta-Bey is an actively practicing Obstetrician Gynecologist in the United States and has been trained in minimally invasive surgery. She is a fellow of the American college of Obstetrician Gynecologists as well as a member of the American Association of Gynecologic laparoscopists. Dr. Shitta-Bey believes in the empowerment of the community that one serves. Currently, minimally invasive surgical procedures are rare in the Nigerian health sector and the pool of surgeons that practice these procedures are small. In Dr. Shitta-bey’s vision, all practising surgeons in Nigeria become competent in their ability to operate laparoscopically. Dr. Shitta-Bey has been active in the Nigerian healthcare system since 2003. She has worked in numerous places in the North, south and west of Nigeria. The decision to open up this center was formed by her observation, during numerous medical missions in Nigeria, that a lot of the procedures including basic laparoscopic procedures could not be reproduced by Nigerian surgeons. Dr. Shitta-Bey believes that education is power and in the 21st century, every surgeon or ob/gyn physician who works either in a small rural area or a big tertiary care center, should be able to do basic bread and butter procedures laparoscopically. Dr. Shitta-Bey believes in the international standard of healthcare and believes that now is the time for Nigerian surgeons to join the ranks of their colleagues in providing healthcare meant for the 21st century. Dr. Shitta-Bey is happily married. She enjoys reading and traveling. Her favorite area to travel is the Caribbean islands and if she is not working in Nigeria or the US, she most likely would be found there. She believes in having a mission and purpose, and believes that we can elevate the practice of medicine in Nigeria to a world international standard.
